IQNA – The Holy Quran says anyone who dies after leaving his home to move on the path of God and His messenger (PBUH) will receive his reward from God.

Verse 100 of Suran An-Nisa

The Quran says in Verse 100 of Surah An-Nisa: “One who abandons his home for the cause of God will find many places of refuge in the vast land and one who dies, after having abandoned his home to get near to God and His Messenger, will receive his reward from God. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful.”

Migrating toward God and Prophet (PBUH), mentioned in this Surah, could be interpreted as migrating of the land of Islam. But it also could mean any migration with the aim of attaining God’s contentment and fulfilling a Wajib (obligatory act).

For example, a person who leaves home to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, or to serve people or even to prepare food to feed his family, can be an example of such migration.

The phrase “will receive his reward from God” shows that it will certainly be a great reward. The verse does not talk about blessings such as paradise but a reward that will only be given by God. The last sentence, “God is All-forgiving and All-merciful,” is an emphasis on the fact that the promise to give such a reward will be definitely fulfilled.

The content of the verse is not just for the people who lived during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) but it is true for all eras, although the Sha’an Nuzul (cause of revelation) of the verse was related to the status of Muslims during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and in the period between their migration to Medina and the Conquest of Mecca.
